American Center Chennai Welcomes Visitors on Appointment Basis from March 7

American Center Chennai has the largest collection of material on American Studies in South Asia 

Chennai, March 4:  The American Center on the premises of the U.S. Consulate General, 220 Anna Salai, Gemini Circle, Chennai, which holds the largest collection of material on American Studies in South Asia, will reopen to the public from Monday, March 7, 2022, on an appointment basis.  The Center will be open Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Visitors are requested to book their slots in advance.  The American Center has been closed to the public since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Visitors aged 15 and above who are fully vaccinated are welcome to the American Center with prior appointment.  To know more about our operations and programs, you can visit us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Visitors to the American Center are required to fill a form https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BQRGZC2 available on our website https://in.usembassy.gov/education-culture/american-spaces/american-space-chennai/ to seek an appointment.  The American Center will approve ten guests for a one-hour slot.  Visitors must carry a hard or soft copy of the filled-in vaccine attestation form available at https://in.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/71/CertificationVaccinationPRAv7-F.pdf

U.S. Consul General in Chennai Judith Ravin said, “We are happy to welcome the patrons and public back to the American Center.  We’ve missed you!  The American Center is a landmark in the city and has welcomed visitors for more than 74 years.  Whether you come to check out one of our nearly 16,000 books, watch a DVD, attend a program, or inquire about U.S. higher education, we look forward to seeing you again.”

All visitors to the American Center are requested to conform to security regulations and produce a valid original Photo Identification (ID) at the Consulate’s Cathedral Road entrance.  Acceptable photo IDs are: Aadhaar card, passport, driver’s license, voter ID card, PAN Card, government employer issued ID, or school/college/university issued ID.  Wearing masks is mandatory at all the times within the premises.  Only cell phones can be deposited at the security counter of the Consulate.  Other electronic devices will not be allowed including iPads/notebooks/ laptops etc.  The Consulate is located near the AG-DMS Metro station; there is no parking facility available for visitors.
