The Hon. Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, participated in the Ministerial meeting of the 2021 United Nations High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development through the submission of a pre-recorded intervention.

The High-Level Political Forum which concluded today, is the core United Nations platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Forum was held under the theme: “Sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic that promotes the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development: building an inclusive and effective path for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda in the context of the decade of action and delivery for sustainable development.”

Minister Todd during his intervention, highlighted Guyana’s progress and priorities and called for scaled-up action to address the development gains which the pandemic has reversed and the acceleration of progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s HLPF also saw participation from the Hon. Dr. Ashni Singh, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, during a panel discussion which focused on a Multi-Vulnerability Index (MVI) for determining concessionary finance for Small Island Developing States (SIDS); and the Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works who participated in a panel discussion on Sustainable Infrastructure.

At the conclusion of the HLPF, a Ministerial Declaration was adopted by the General Assembly which focused primarily on recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
