Statement of His Excellency Dr, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment, 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, moments ago, delivered his first intervention during the 2021 High- Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Dr. Ali delivered his intervention at the second Sustainable Development Goals Moment (SDG Moment) of the Decade of Action which took place virtually ahead of the opening of the 76th UN General Assembly’s general debate.
His Excellency during his intervention assured the United Nations of Guyana’s unwavering commitment to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs.

“My country’s commitment to leaving no one behind is unalterable. Guyana is a plural society, with six ethnic groups and a kaleidoscope of cultures. This diversity impels us to approach policymaking in an even-handed and inclusive manner,” Dr. Ali remarked.

He added: “Agenda 2030 represents a framework for sustainable, inclusive and equitable development. It is therefore imperative that the international community is not distracted or detoured from achieving the Agenda’s objectives and targets.”
