Secretary-General Strongly Condemns Deadly Strike on Peacekeepers in Democratic Republic of Congo

The particular Secretary-General strongly condemns the particular attack, on 5  February, against a helicopter of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Objective in the Democratic Republic from the Congo (MONUSCO).   The helicopter came under fire while traveling from Beni to Goma, North Kivu Province, leading to one South African peacekeeper killed and another significantly injured.   The crew was able to land the helicopter in Goma. The Secretary-General reaffirms that the United Nations, through his Special Representative in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, will continue to support the particular Congolese Government and people within their efforts to bring about peacefulness and stability in the eastern of the country. The Secretary-General recalls that will attacks against United Nations peacekeepers may constitute a war crime under international regulation.   He calls on the Congolese authorities to investigate this heinous attack and swiftly bring those responsible to proper rights.
