Guterres strongly condemns deadly mosque attack in Pakistan

Extending his condolences to the victims’ households and wishes for a quick recovery to those injured, Mister. Guterres reiterated the solidarity of the United Nations with the Federal government and people of Pakistan within their efforts to address terrorism and violent extremism.

‘Abhorrent’ attack

“Houses of worship are almost holy places where worshippers should be able to practice and declare their faith safely and openly, ” he said, also expressing deep concern at the overall within instances of discrimination, intolerance and everything acts of violence directed against members of any religious or even other communities. Calling for shared respect of all religions plus faiths and for fostering a culture of fraternity and peace, he asked government authorities and other stakeholders to support the particular UN Strategy to Safeguard Religious Sites ,   which has been developed by the Alliance, at the request from the Secretary-General.

‘Sacred places’ must feel safe
