Guidance: Living in Armenia

Overview

Start searching for employment opportunities early. Make sure you have brought your diplomas and certificates with you, some employers may require translated copies. Armenian companies do not normally recruit employees from abroad. If they need an employee they expect to hire immediately. To apply for a job you may need to provide a UK police certificate. You can drive in Armenia on your UK issued driving licence or international licence, as long as it is valid. Medical care providers in Armenia must provide emergency first aid to any person (including a foreign national), regardless of their ability to pay. By law, if you make the necessary social security payments related to pension provisions, and you meet the necessary legal conditions, you have the right to the same pension as an Armenian national gets.

Coronavirus

There are also numbers to reach specific types of assistance directly, but the operators may not speak English.  These are: English and Russian are taught in all public schools, while some also offer German, French, and Chinese.

Working in Armenia

If your child is born in Armenia you should register the birth with the local authorities. If you wish to do so, you can then register with the UK authorities and apply for a UK birth certificate. When applying for a work permit the Ministry must check that there are no qualified local Armenian workers available to fill the position. If there are locals, MLSA will refer them to the employer for an interview. Studying in Armenia

Cats should also be vaccinated against panleukemia, viral rhinothracheitis, calicivirus, and leukaemia. Most people choose to either register at a local polyclinic or with private clinics for primary care. Kindergartens and general secondary education in state educational institutions are free of charge for citizens, dual citizens, residents, and foreign nationals living in Armenia. Pensions

Find out how you can get married or get a civil partnership abroad. British nationals do not require an entry visa to Armenia. They must have a valid passport. British Citizens can stay in Armenia without a visa up to 180 days per year. There are also many private kindergartens, schools, and universities. Tuition fees vary.

Moving your financial assets

You may bring pets into Armenia as long as they have a CITES permit, issued in the country of origin. Your cat and dog must be vaccinated for rabies between 20 days and 6 months prior to entering Armenia.

Accommodation and buying property

State colleges and universities offer discounted or free places for students who score high marks on entrance exams. Once the work permit is issued (typically within 14 days), you must apply for a temporary residence permit at the Passport and Visa Department of the Yerevan Police (OVIR). The application must be accompanied by supporting documentation, including medical test results. The temporary residence card is issued within approximately 30 to 45 days of the application date.

Births

You can bring up to ,000 in cash into Armenia. You must declare cash of ,000 or more (or the equivalent in other currency). Cash includes travellers’ cheques. If your pet does not have a registered microchip, make sure it wears tags that identify them and has contact information for you.

Marriage

Passengers planning to travel to Armenia are no longer required to present a COVID-19 PCR test or a Certificate of complete vaccination against COVID-19.

Emergencies

A rabies titer test is not required.

Your British passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your intended stay in Armenia. You do not need an additional period of validity beyond this.

Returning to the UK

Dogs should also be vaccinated against distemper, hepatitis, viral enteritis, parvovirus, parainfluenza, adenovirus infections and leptospirosis.
