Entry and residence requirements

For residence requirements and information on obtaining an identity card known as Cedula de Identidad (CI), you should visit the Direccion Nacional de Migraciones website (in Spanish).
When applying for residency in Paraguay you might be asked to obtain a certificate from the Embassy with information about criminal records which might be held about you. The British Embassy cannot issue any type of certificate in relation to personal information which might be held about you in the UK. Once you have obtained this information you should get it legalised by the Legalisation Office in the UK before submitting it to the Paraguayan authorities.

Healthcare
Paraguay and the UK do not have reciprocal healthcare agreements.

National Insurance
You may be able to pay National Insurance while abroad in order to protect your State Pension and entitlement to other benefits and allowances.

Life certificates for UK state pensions
If you get a ‘life certificate’ from the UK Pension Service, you need to respond as soon as possible – your payments may be suspended if you don’t.
Benefits
You will need to tell the UK government offices that deal with your benefits, pension and tax if you are moving or retiring abroad.
