In the Passing of Former Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, Dr Richard Bernal

It is with a feeling of deep sadness that individuals learnt of the passing associated with Ambassador Dr Richard Bernal, who served as Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Company of American States (OAS), positions he held for over ten years between May 6, 1991, and August 31, 2001.

On behalf of the federal government and people of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, heartfelt condolences are usually extended to Prime Minister Andrew Holness and the broader Jamaican community on the moving of Ambassador Bernal and also to his family and friends.
Ambassador Bernal is known for his comprehensive understanding of international economic policy and economic growth as they affect small-island building states within CARICOM (Caribbean Community). His distinguished diplomacy will be long remembered by many.
