EU COLAC Seeking To Enhance Engagement With Barbados

This was highlighted when Minister of State in Foreign Trade and Business, Sandra Husbands, met with the EU COLAC’s 13-member abordnung, led by EU Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean, OECS and CARICOM/CARIFORUM, Minister of State within Foreign Trade and Company, Sandra Husbands, in debate with EU Ambassador towards the Eastern Caribbean, OECS and CARICOM/CARIFORUM, Malgorzata Wasilewska, and EU COLAC Chair, Tomás Reyes Ortega, during a meeting today. Forde-Craigg/BGIS) The European Union’s working celebration on Latin America as well as the Caribbean (COLAC) within the Authorities of Europe is seeking to enhance its engagement with Barbados and the Caribbean. Mr. Ortega also outlined four key regions of focus the working team was expected to address. For instance ,: trade relations; intensifying political dialogue; forging alliances within key areas such as eco-friendly agenda, digital transition, and social cohesion; democracy and human rights. Minister Husbands, noting that Barbados and the EUROPEAN UNION had a longstanding relationship that will dates back to July 1976, said she was pleased to welcome the COLAC abordnung on their first trip to Barbados to discuss ways “to increase strengthening our relationships plus helping us to move forwards in a very difficult time in history”. The Minister highlighted some of the issues facing Barbados and areas where help could be increased including climate adaptation and climate resiliency, green deals, food protection, life sciences and biotechnology.   She also pressured the impact of the dark and grey listing of Barbados. Counsellor Ortega explained what the EU COLAC was about and emphasised the significance of the visit to Barbados.   He stated: “We chose to come to the Caribbean to get a purpose; we really wanted to transmission that as part of our plan …, the Caribbean is essential to us.   And, I thought that this was an extraordinary opportunity to bring the colleagues from your member states here, [let them] experience by themselves and then report back to all of those other group. ” In addition , he noted the fact that working group manages a very large portfolio that includes thirty-three countries in Latin The united states and the Caribbean and the time had come to get to know and see first-hand what is taking place, along with have “frank discussions” using the countries they oversee.
