While in Guatemala, Ambassador Walcott also met with Mr. Mario Permuth, Barbados’ Honorary Consul, and Mr. Igal Permuth, the Hon. Vice Consul, to discuss matters concerning the advancement of Barbados’ interests in Guatemala.

[Photo credit: Government of Barbados] The following day, January 10, 2023, Ambassador Walcott met with high level officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, including Ms. Shirley Aguilar Barrera, Vice Minister designed for Foreign Affairs. They talked about proposed areas of cooperation among Barbados and Guatemala like education, tourism, trade, sports activities, and culture. During the conversations, the Guatemalan officials announced the award of two scholarships with regard to Barbadian diplomats to attend the particular Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala and also offered to donate many plants to the National Botanical Gardens. Ambassador Walcott thanked the Guatemalan government bodies on behalf of the Government and the Individuals of Barbados.
