Ambassador January-Bardill Visits Prime Minister Mottley

Chairperson of the Council of the Nelson Mandela University and the United Nations (UN) Global Compact Local Network in South Africa, Ambassador Nozipho January-Bardill, today paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, at Ilaro Court.Ambassador January-Bardill will deliver tonight’s annual Nelson Mandela Day Lecture at the Frank Collymore Hall, at 7:00, and will reflect on the life and impact of Nelson Mandela.July 18 was designated by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as Nelson Mandela International Day in 2009, through resolution A/RES/64/13.Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Ambassador NoziphoThis was done as the UNGA recognised Nelson Mandela’s life and his “dedication to the service of humanity, as a humanitarian, in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations, promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality and the rights of children and other vulnerable groups, as well as the upliftment of poor and underdeveloped communities”.This visit comes on a significant day for the world, as today, July 18, is recognised as Nelson Mandela International Day.
