Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Portugal on 7 January 2021 to discuss the relations between our countries and the preparations of the 2nd Turkey-Portugal Intergovernmental Summit.

Minister Çavuşoğlu first met with Pedro Roque Oliveira, Chairman of the Turkey-Portugal Interparliamentary Friendship Group.

Minister Çavuşoğlu was then received by Prime Minister Antonio Costa of Portugal, and later on the same day met with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva.

After the meeting, the two Ministers held a joint press conference.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we would organize the 2nd Turkey-Portugal Intergovernmental Summit this year in Turkey, after the first one being held in Lisbon five years ago, and that we would also convene the Joint Economic and Trade Committee before the Summit.

Minister Çavuşoğlu noted as well that our bilateral trade volume with Portugal had quadrupled in the last 20 years and had surpassed 2 billion US Dollars, and that we wished to turn a new page with the European Union (EU) during the Portuguese Presidency of the EU.
