Visit of Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Pakistan, 13-14 January 2021

Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Pakistan on 13-14 January 2021 for the preparations of the 7th Meeting of the Turkey-Pakistan High Level Strategic Council, to officially inaugurate our new Consulate General compound in Karachi, and to attend the Second Trilateral Meeting of Turkey-Pakistan-Azerbaijan Foreign Ministers.

On his first day in Islamabad, Minister Çavuşoğlu was received by President Arif Alvi of Pakistan and conveyed him the greetings and best wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also stated that Pakistan was our second home, that we would further our excellent relations, and that he would proudly carry the “Hilal-e-Pakistan Award” that he received during his visit.

Then, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that they discussed the 71-point Road Map that would strengthen our relations, that we would bring our bilateral trade volume up to its true potential, and that we would develop our cooperation in defense industry as well.

Later, Minister Çavuşoğlu signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the activities of Turkish Maarif Foundation with Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood of Pakistan and then paid a visit to Pak-Turk Maarif Schools Campus of Islamabad.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu was also received by Prime Minister Imran Khan of Pakistan and conveyed him the greetings and best wishes of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also noted that we would organize the 7th Meeting of Turkey-Pakistan High Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Turkey this year, and that our bonds with brotherly Pakistan would last forever.

Then, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the trilateral meeting with his Pakistani and Azerbaijani counterparts.

On the same day, Minister Çavuşoğlu discussed recent developments on Nagorno-Karabagh with Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov of Azerbaijan and underlined that we would continue to support our Azerbaijani brothers and sisters in building peace in the region.

On the second day of his program, Minister Çavuşoğlu visited the Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah, one of chief architects of Turkey-Pakistan friendship.

Then Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Imran Ismail, Governor of Sindh and thanked him for his support to the construction of our Consulate compound in Karachi.

Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed that Turkish Maarif Foundation was successfully running 6 schools in Sindh, that it was ready to open new ones, and that our cooperation in education would continue.

Later that day, Minister Çavuşoğlu met with Murad Al Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, thanked him for his support to the construction of our Consulate compound in Karachi, stated that Karachi, the economic heart of Pakistan, was the gateway to Turkish investments in Pakistan and that we were willing to share our experience in economy.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu attended the official inauguration ceremony of the new compound of our Consulate General in Karachi and wished it served our countries to the best.
