12th Ambassadors Conference, 9-10 November 2020

The Twelfth Ambassadors’ Conference was held held on November 9-10, 2020 in Ankara under the theme “Turkish Diplomacy at the Centenary of National Sovereignty: From Tradition to the Future”.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s conference was held in a hybrid format; the Ambassadors abroad attending online.

On the morning of 9 November, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and the Ambassadors visited the Martyrs’ Cemetery of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Atatürk’s Mausoleum.

At the official opening of the Conference, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the Ambassadors and guests.

Minister Çavuşoğlu delivered the closing speech of the Conference and stated that we were celebrating the 100th Anniversary of our National Sovereignty this year, and therefore we set our theme as “Turkish Diplomacy in the Centenary of National Sovereignty: From Tradition to the Future”.

Minister Çavuşoğlu also stated that our Ministry was working on a 24/7 basis, and that while one of our missions was experiencing the sunset, another mission was experiencing the sunrise at the same time.

Minister Çavuşoğlu emphasized that we acted with the motivation to be among the pioneers of the digital age, rather than catching up with it, that we were in the 7th place in the G20 Digital Diplomacy index, that we ranked 3rd in terms of social media interaction.

Minister Çavuşoğlu reminded that from the very beginning of the pandemic, Turkish diplomacy had provided its services in all areas without delay, that we coordinated the largest repatriation operation in the history of the Republic of Turkey through our Ministry’s Coordination and Support Center, that Turkey, by providing service directly to our citizens in almost every geographic area, from Latin America to Asia and from North America to Africa, was acting as a “Compassionate Power” and passed successfully the test on behalf of all mankind.

Finally, Minister Çavuşoğlu noted that the staff of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs was made of representatives of a bright state and nation that shined like the sun, and was proudly waving our glorious flag in every corner of the world.

On 10 November 2020, Minister Çavuşoğlu also had a meeting in Ankara with Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Following the meeting, the two Ministers held a joint press conference.

Minister Çavuşoğlu stated that we would continue supporting Kyrgyzstan during the transition period, that we had almost 1 billion US Dollar investment in Kyrgyzstan, and that we aimed for 1 billion US Dollar in our bilateral trade volüme.

On the occasion of the visit, the Agreement enabling Maarif Foundation to open schools in Kyrgyzstan was signed.
