On behalf of the people and government of Taiwan, Minister of Foreign Affairs James C.F. Huang extends his congratulations to the people and government of Kosovo. Self-determination is a sacred right recognized in the United Nations Charter. It is admirable that, despite the many obstacles, the people of Kosovo have had the courage of their convictions and peacefully marched towards independence. The government of Taiwan, a sovereign state and member of the international community, firmly believes in democracy and freedom, and is delighted that the people of Kosovo can finally enjoy the fruits of independent sovereignty, democracy and freedom. We wish Kosovo a bright and prosperous future. (E)
