ROC government concerned about use of chemical weapons in Syrian civil war

2013/08/31
Statement No. 003

Recent developments in the Syrian civil war have elicited worldwide attention. Information from multiple sources indicates that chemical weapons have been used on civilians during recent clashes in Syria, resulting in severe injuries and loss of life. The Republic of China (Taiwan), based on respect for human rights and the universal values of democracy, calls upon the Syrian government and opposition groups to resolve domestic political disputes through peaceful means, and condemns any acts involving the use of violence or inhumane methods that harm civilians.

For the Syrian refugees who have fled to Jordan, based on humanitarian considerations, the ROC government has provided 50 pre-fabricated housing units and five brand-new fully equipped rescue vehicles for use in providing aid to the refugees. (E)
