MOFA launches drive to collect supplies for Ukrainian refugees, welcomes public donations

March 5, 2022
No. 050

Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in late February, more than a million Ukrainians have fled their homes to Poland, Slovakia, and other neighboring countries. They are in urgent need of supplies and are counting on countries around the world to help them through the current crisis.

In order to assist Ukrainian war refugees, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announces that it will accept in-kind donations between March 7 (Monday) and March 18 (Friday) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily (including the weekend). The goods will be sent to European countries bordering Ukraine and distributed to Ukrainian refugees through local relief agencies.

Donation guidelines:

1.Members of the public interested in making donations should refer to the attached list of needed goods and medical supplies. In consideration of practical needs and for the convenience and safety of shipment, only items on the list will be accepted.

2.Prior to making a donation, individuals, companies, or organizations should fill out the attached registration form and send it to MOFA via fax (02-2389-9694) or email (afri1@mofa.gov.tw). The form may also be completed at the donation site.

3.Donations may be dropped off at the west entrance of MOFA headquarters (at the intersection of Ketagalan Boulevard and Gongyuan Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City) between March 7 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Or they may be mailed in packages labeled In-kind donation for Ukraine to: MOFA Secretariat, No. 2, Ketagalan Boulevard, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City 100. For large donations, please contact MOFA in advance to arrange logistics.

4.Inquiries may be made at (02) 2348-2863 or 2348-2864, or for NGOs at (02) 2348-2094, during office hours starting 10 a.m. on March 7.

The government’s humanitarian response has included 27 tons of emergency medical supplies shipped to Ukraine on February 28 and a special account to raise funds for the Ukrainian people set up on March 2. After receiving a flood of calls from individuals, companies, and organizations asking how to donate supplies, MOFA decided to accept in-kind donations to meet the public’s desire to show their compassion.

The government will continue to participate in international humanitarian efforts to assist Ukraine and share the compassion of the Taiwanese people with Ukrainian refugees. (E)
