Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu presided over a ceremony April 24 for the donation of 35,000 forehead thermometers and 250 automatic temperature measurement systems provided by TaiDoc Technology Corp. Chairman Mike Chen. The donation demonstrates how the government and private sector can join forces to help Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and like-minded countries fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Representing the allies and other friendly countries receiving the donation were William Tapia, Nicaragua’s Ambassador and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps as well as Ambassadors and Chargé d’affaires from Taiwan’s Allied countries; Brent Christensen, Director of the Taipei Office of the American Institute in Taiwan(AIT); and Thomas Prinz, Director General of the German Institute Taipei.
Minister Wu pointed out that the government and people of Taiwan are proud to have accomplished much in assisting Taiwan’s diplomatic allies and like-minded countries with their epidemic prevention efforts. He thanked TaiDoc for its generous contribution and concrete steps to help contain the global pandemic. Dr. Mike Chen, Chairman of TaiDoc Technology, emphasized that his company’s sense of social responsibility inspired it to donate the domestically produced forehead thermometers to assist in worldwide pandemic prevention efforts, as Taiwan’s products are of high quality.
Jasmine Elise Huggins, Saint Christopher and Nevis Ambassador and Deputy Dean, spoke on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, lauding Taiwan for implementing effective response measures to challenges stemming from the outbreak and lending a hand to diplomatic allies and other members of the international community to help prevent the pandemic’s spread at this difficult time.
AIT’s Director Christensen also praised the effectiveness of Taiwan’s antiepidemic measures and quoted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who said that “during tough times, friends stick together.” Director Christensen also called Taiwan a true friend and expressed gratitude to the government of Taiwan.
General Director Prinz cited a letter from German Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn to Taiwan’s Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung, thanking Taiwan for donating surgical masks and promoting mutual trust and cooperative relations between the two countries. Taiwan’s experience has served as a reference for overcoming the coronavirus outbreak in Germany, he added.
TaiDoc Technology’s magnanimous donation of forehead thermometers and automatic temperature measurement systems for diplomatic allies and like-minded countries is an exemplary model of public-private sector cooperation for the provision of international humanitarian assistance. (E)
