Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun Meets with New Mongolian Ambassador to Korea

1. Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun met with new Ambassador of Mongolia to Korea Namsrai Erdenetuya on the morning of March 29, and had a broad exchange of views on Korea-Mongolia relations, cooperation in COVID-19 response, and the Northeast Asia Cooperation Initiative for Infectious Disease Control and Public Health.   2. Vice Minister Choi noted with appreciation that despite the COVID-19 situation last year, Korea and Mongolia have expanded and deepened their cooperative relations in a wide range of areas on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and suggested that the two countries resume high-level exchanges, including holding a vice ministerial-level strategic dialogue between the two countries, taking into account the COVID-19 situation.   o In addition, Vice Minister Choi noted that Korea and Mongolia have also closely worked together in responding to COVID-19. He particularly appreciated the Mongolian side’s active participation in the “Northeast Asia Cooperation Initiative for Infectious Disease Control and Public Health” launched late last year, and asked for Mongolia’s continued support and cooperation.   3. Ambassador Erdenetuya said that it is meaningful to take office as Ambassador to Korea at this important time when the two countries begin the next 30 years of bilateral relations, and that during her tenure, she would make efforts to take bilateral relations to a higher level, including strengthening communication between the diplomatic authorities of the two countries.
