Outcome of Meeting between Foreign Minister of Korea and Defense Minister of Indonesia

1. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Chung Eui-yong had a meeting with Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on April 9 and exchanged views on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional issues.   2. The Ministers noted with satisfaction that the two countries have continued to strengthen their friendly and cooperative relations in a wide range of areas including economy, defense, and military industries, based on the deep trust and friendship between the leaders of the two countries. The Ministers especially appreciated that the two countries have been solidifying communication and cooperation between them even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.   3. Furthermore, the two Ministers agreed that the two countries will work together as Special Strategic Partners based on deep trust in order to continue advancing mutually beneficial substantive cooperation such as on the KF-X/IF-X Fighter Joint Development Project.   o In addition, the two Ministers recognized the necessity for a “two-plus-two” meeting of foreign and defense ministers to further enhance strategic communication between the two countries, and agreed to arrange a “two-plus-two” meeting at the director-general level first for the first half of this year.   4. Foreign Minister Chung looked forward to Indonesia’s continued support for the efforts to make substantive progress toward complete denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula, and Defense Minister Prabowo reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s unwavering support.
