Singapore has been formally admitted as a Dialogue Partner of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF). The PIF Leaders had endorsed Singapore’s application in principle at the PIF Leaders’ Retreat in August 2021.
The PIF is a key regional forum in the South Pacific that seeks to foster cooperation between its members, and collaboration with international partners in areas such as climate change and sustainable development. There are 18 members in the PIF, namely, Australia, Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Republic of Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Singapore has long-standing and warm relations with the South Pacific. As fellow small island states, we share many common interests and concerns such as climate change. We also enjoy excellent cooperation at international fora. Singapore has shared our developmental experience with more than 5,300 officials from the South Pacific through the Singapore Cooperation Programme, in a wide range of areas such as economic development, civil aviation, environment and urban development.
Singapore looks forward to strengthening our relations with the South Pacific through our Dialogue Partnership of the PIF.
