Congratulatory Letter from President Halimah Yacob to Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

1 February 2021

His Excellency Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa

President

Portuguese Republic

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the people of Singapore, I convey my warmest congratulations to you on your re-election as President of the Portuguese Republic. Your victory is a reflection of the strong support and trust of the Portuguese people in your leadership.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Portugal and Singapore. Over the last four decades, our two countries have enjoyed a warm and friendly relationship, underpinned by a shared belief in the importance of multilateralism and in upholding a rules-based international order. As maritime states with longstanding interests in promoting free trade and the economy, it is important that we continue to work together to ensure connectivity and resilient supply chains, as well as ensuring that our oceans are used sustainably. Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am glad that our bilateral cooperation continues to grow, which will further strengthen relations between our two countries and peoples.

I wish you good health and every success.

Yours sincerely,

HALIMAH YACOB
