Pakistan condemns in the strongest conditions the senseless and significantly offensive act of desecration of the Holy Quran within Denmark, by the same Islamophobe who committed a similar function in Sweden a few days back.
This replication of the vile act leaves little doubt in the thoughts of Muslims around the world that will freedom of expression has been blatantly abused to distribute religious hatred and incitement to violence.
It also calls into issue the legal framework at the rear of which the Islamophobes hide and spread hatred with impunity. At a time when there is an increasing need for inter-faith harmony and mutual respect for peaceful coexistence, the international community are not able to turn a blind attention to these hate mongers.
Pakistan reiterates the considered position that freedom of expression comes with responsibilities. Pakistan also believes that it must be the responsibility of the national governments as well as the international community to avoid these racist and Islampohobic acts.
Pakistan’s concerns are being conveyed to the authorities in Denmark. We urge them to be mindful of the particular sentiments of the people of Pakistan and Muslims around the world and take steps to prevent this kind of hateful and Islamophobic works.
