China Announces Providing COVID-19 Vaccine to Pakistan

During telephone conversation with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi informed that China will provide five hundred thousand doses of Sinopharm vaccine to Pakistan by the end of this month. This gesture by Beijing reaffirms depth and breadth of the ‘All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership’ between Pakistan and China.

State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscored that Beijing would also provide vaccines produced by CanSino and SinoVac to support Pakistan’s fight against the second wave of COVID-19.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for China’s befitting gesture that once again demonstrated that it stood by Pakistani people in the hour of need.

The Foreign Minister apprised Mr. Wang Yi that, given promising results of the Sinopharm’s trials in various countries and taking into account our historic relationship, Pakistan had approved Emergency Use Authorization of the Sinopharm vaccine.

State Councilor Wang Yi reiterated that Pakistan and China were close friends and iron brothers and China-Pakistan friendship had withstood the test of time. Both the Foreign Ministers reaffirmed their resolve to make CPEC a High-Quality Demonstration Project of the BRI and agreed to enhance communication and coordination to further solidify Pakistan-China ties.
