Historic Visit that Provided a New Milestone in DPRK-Mongolia Friendship

33 years have passed since President Kim Il Sung visited the then People’s Republic of Mongolia for the second time from June 28 to July 2, 1988.

The Mongolian people welcomed Comrade Kim Il Sung with exceptional passion and jubilation who had visited their country the second time after 32 years since his visit in 1956.

The leading officials and people of Mongolia held President Kim Il Sung in high esteem as an outstanding leader in the cause for global independence and accorded him warm hospitality with all sincerity in every part of the country starting from the border city of Sukhbaatar to the capital city Ulaanbaatar.

The Mongolian side took it as an honor to have the visit of President Kim Il Sung to their country and awarded him the Order of Sukhbaatar, the highest order of Mongolia, reflecting the boundless reverence for him.

It was a manifestation of high respect from the Mongolian people for President Kim Il Sung who had made immortal contributions to expanding and developing the friendly relations between the two countries.

In the speeches made at the welcome banquet and mass rally, President Kim Il Sung inspired and encouraged the people of Mongolia by commending their brilliant successes achieved through creative labor struggles and affirmed that the passage of time will further strengthen and develop the friendship and solidarity between the peoples of the DPRK and Mongolia which were forged and consolidated in the course of joint struggle to safeguard peace and security in Asia.

Thanks to the energetic external activities of President Kim Il Sung, an inter-governmental agreement was concluded between the DPRK and Mongolia on the establishment of the Committee for Consultation in Economy and Science & Technology and an agreement was reached on expanding and developing economic and technical exchanges and cooperation in several fields.

Comrade Kim Il Sung also met with people from every walk of life and strengthened the bond of friendship with them.

Comrade Kim Il Sung laid a wreath at the mausoleum of D. Sukhbaatar and KH. Choibalsan, the founders of Mongolian revolution, and met with a Mongolian veteran and O. Chermaa and his party who worked for a long time at the Korean war orphanage and presented them with benevolent gifts to be handed down to posterity.

He also visited an ordinary nomadic family living in a yurt and also attended a horse racing of the village farmers.

When he visited the Schoolchildren’s Palace in Ulaanbaatar, he watched the hobby groups activities of the youth and children and a colorful art performance specially prepared by the members of palace art groups, and wrote immortal writings wishing them a good future.

President Kim Il Sung’s visit to Mongolia constituted a historic event that marked a new milestone in developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the peoples of two countries.

We will, in the future, too, continue to strengthen and develop the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and Mongolia that were provided and developed by the preceding leaders of the two countries in conformity with the aspirations and interests of the peoples of two countries.
