Simon van der Burg is the new ambassador of the Netherlands to Bulgaria

Simon van der Burg is the new ambassador of the Netherlands to Bulgaria. Today, September 21st, he handed his letters of credence to the President of Bulgaria Mr. Rumen Radev.

Ambassador Simon van der Burg has a Master of Science degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam.

His diplomatic career started in 1993 and in the following years he has taken positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague, the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the European Union in Brussels and at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Moscow.

In the period 2004-2007 Mr. Van der Burg headed the Public Diplomacy and Press Department at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Washington and between 2007 and 2009 he has been Deputy Director External Affairs of Fortis Bank in Brussels.

For two years, 2010-2011, he was Head of Department Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in 2012 he served as a Civilian Representative of the Netherlands police training mission in Kunduz, Afghanistan.

From 2013 till 2017 Mr. Van der Burg was a Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

During the last four years before his arrival in Bulgaria he served as Master of Ceremonies to His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.
