Deputy Foreign Minister U KyawMyoHtut delivered opening remarks at Eminent Persons Forum on Mekong-Lancang Cooperation(8-11-2022)

He also mentioned the successful outcomes of the Seventh MLC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Bagan on 4th of July 2022 hosted by Myanmar as a Co-chair of MLC. He expressed his special thanks to China for providing numerous assistances to the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation including MLC Special Fund and other funding schemes. He expressed his confidence on the inputs and fresh ideas to be given by the Eminent Persons during the forum as intellectual support to the MLC for peaceful, prospered and sustainably developed Mekong-Lancang Region.
H.E. U KyawMyoHtut, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar attended the which was organized by the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign first ever Eminent Persons Forum of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation virtually Affairs (CPIFA) in Beijing on 8 November 2022. The Forum was held under the theme of “Highlight Development and Enhance Exchanges for a New Era of Peace and Prosperity” with the participation of Eminent Persons of various fields such as politics, diplomacy, business and academics, from the member countries of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
At the opening session, Deputy Foreign Minister delivered opening remarks together with H.E. Wu Jianghao, Assistant Foreign Minister of People’s Republic of China, and Ambassador Li Zhaoxing, Honorary President of CPIFA and Former Chinese Foreign Minister.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister highlighted triumphant journey of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation in effective delivery of tangible benefits to the peoples of Mekong-Lancang region, and the needs to respond the current regional and global challenges with collective measures.
During the forum, the discussion of the Eminent Persons from six MLC member countries identified the areas that needs to take urgent collective actions for regional inclusive development and respond to the challenges such as facilitation of economic revitalization, enhanced intra-regional connectivity for smooth flow of goods and services, to step-up cooperation on custom to reduce hindrances for trade, intensified cooperation on regional energy trade and increased production capacity of agriculture.

U Thant Kyaw, Chairman of Myanmar Strategic and International Studies Institute (MISIS) and Retired Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and U Win ZeyarTun, Vice-Chair of the MLC National Coordination Unit (Myanmar) and Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also participated in the panel discussion at thematic sessions of the forum. <!–
