Minister Nicu Popescu after meeting with Czech counterpart Jakub Kulhánek: “I thanked the Czech Republic for the strong support expressed for the reform agenda of the new Government.”

September 10, 2021, Chișinău – The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Jakub Kulhánek, visiting the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of his Moldovan counterpart. During the meeting, officials discussed the main areas of Moldovan-Czech cooperation, as well as the prospects for further development of an advantageous collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and the Czech Republic.

“I thank the Czech Republic for its support for the new government’s reform agenda. We mentioned in this regard that we appreciate the fact that the heads of both diplomats, France and the Czech Republic, countries that will hold the rotating Presidency of the European Union in 2022, have already visited our country and expressed support for accelerating the European integration process of Moldova. ” – said the head of Moldovan diplomacy.

Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu appreciated, in the context, the consistent support of the Czech Republic for the implementation of projects in the field of strengthening resilience in the Eastern Partnership countries including the Republic of Moldova.

Officials set out to intensify economic and trade relations with the Czech Republic. In this context, the Foreign Ministers agreed to hold the 5th meeting of the Moldovan-Czech Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation by the end of this year in Chisinau.

“We welcomed the fact that the Czech Republic is ranked 3rd among the EU Member States in terms of our wine exports and expressed gratitude to the Czech government for its substantial support in combating the COVID-19 pandemic.” – said Minister Nicu Popescu.

At the same time, the Moldovan diplomat appreciated the regional diversity of the ongoing Czech projects – an example in this respect being the construction of the treatment plant in the city of Briceni worth 2.5 million euros.

Diplomats also agreed to strengthen political dialogue by conducting a high-level visit to the Czech Republic by the end of this year.
