Meeting of the head of the Moldovan diplomacy Nicu Popescu with the Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias

September 8, 2021, Chișinău-Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European integration Nicu Popescu hosted in Chișinău the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, Nikos Dendias, in a year of double significance, the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic Of Moldova and the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence. In this context, the Moldovan official pointed out that the Hellenic Revolution began in Chișinău, where members of the Greek national liberation movement “Eteria” were active.

During the negotiations, the foreign ministers reconfirmed the interest to continue the bilateral dialogue in the spirit of the European values, which we share, strengthening the historical friendly relations between the Republic of Moldova and Greece.

The head of the Moldovan diplomacy thanked the Greek authorities for supporting the European path of the Republic Of Moldova. In cooperation with the European Union, minister Nicu Popescu pointed that we are at the stage of negotiation of the Association Agenda, which sets out the priorities for the coming year, and that the Government make all reasonable efforts to comply with the conditions essential to the allocation of the $ 600 million scheduled for the economic recovery of the Republic of Moldova.

A specific focus in the plenary session of delegations was on assessing the potential of trade-economic cooperation. In this regard, the heads of the two ministries agreed to organize a mission of Greek entrepreneurs as soon as possible to identify new investment opportunities.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece led to the signing of the agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Hellenic Republic in the field of Social Security, which will bring concrete benefits and guarantees to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova living or working in Greece. 

At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu proposed the signing in the near future of another important agreement – the agreement on the conversion of driver’s licenses.
