Current topics on the agenda of Moldo-Swedish relations discussed at the MFAEI

July 9, 2020, Chișinău – Bilateral and multilateral cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Sweden was addressed today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Oleg Țulea, at a meeting with the Swedish Ambassador to Chișinău, Anna Lyberg.

Officials discussed actions aimed at contributing to the implementation of joint projects, diversification of cooperation sectors and development of trade and economic relations in the new context, created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Oleg Țulea spoke about the latest developments in the process of European integration of the Republic of Moldova and the implementation of reforms in accordance with the Association Agreement while expressing appreciation to Sweden for supporting our country in strengthening democracy, economic development and environmental protection.

Ambassador Anna Lyberg reported on projects funded by the Swedish authorities to combat the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Republic of Moldova – distribution of protective equipment to regional medical institutions and social workers, support of local companies that manufacture such equipment, support of mass-media institutions and the Covid-19 pandemic information campaigns.

Another important topic of the meeting was Sweden’s takeover of the OSCE Presidency in 2021. The interlocutors spoke about Sweden’s objectives and priorities in this capacity, but also about organising a visit to Chișinău by the Swedish Foreign Minister during her presidency.
