Minister Bettel states: “As the host country of numerous European institutions, bodies and organisations, European integration is of crucial importance to our country. As part of the headquarters policy, the Luxembourg government will continue to enhance and promote Luxembourg as the headquarters of the European institutions, focusing on its legal, financial and digital poles. In this context, I am delighted to have had the opportunity to exchange views with the members of the CALux on issues of common interest. Luxembourg currently has some 14,000 European civil servants and agents, which represents around 3% of the Luxembourg employment market. The European institutions are the Grand Duchy’s second largest employer, after the Luxembourg State. The staff of the different European institutions based in Luxembourg, as well as their families, contribute greatly to the cultural richness of this country, and we are proud of them.”  The “CALux” is an interinstitutional forum for discussion and decision-making, set up in 1992 in order to discuss the proper functioning of the institutions and the way in which they operate. It consists of the following European institutions and bodies: European Parliament, European Commission, European Court of Auditors, European Stability Mechanism, European Investment Bank, Court of Justice of the European Union, Publication Office of the European Union, European Public Prosecutor’s Office, Translation Centre, as well as the European Schools I and II. On 4 March 2024, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, met the members of the Meeting of Secretaries-General and Heads of Administration of the Institutions and Bodies of the European Union based in Luxembourg (also known as “CALux”).
