Following a survey that was conducted when this project was first initiated in 2020, it was confirmed that the islets to have their desalination plants installed include Kiebu on Makin, Abamwakoro on Nonouti, Tenaatorua, Aiwa and Bangai on Tabiteuea Meang, Takuu on Tabiteuea Maiaki, and Tabuarorae on Onotoa. According to a report on the progress of the project, construction works on the sheds for these desalination plants have already commenced on the islands of Makin, Tabiteuea Meang, Tabiteuea Maiaki, Onotoa and Nonouti will be started very soon as the materials have just been delivered earlier this month to this island. Furthermore, all desalination plants have also been delivered to these island councils and ready for installation after the construction works on their sheds complete. To ensure the sustainability of this project, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between the Government and these island Councils so that those who will use this people will be given ownership and responsibility to use it properly for the livelihood of the people on these islets.
