The embassies of Kazakhstan continue to hold briefings for foreign media and experts on the country’s preparations for the parliamentary elections

Nur-Sultan, December 23, 2020 – During an online briefing, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Germany Dauren Karipov shared with the representatives of the socio-political and business circles, as well as the media, the details on the country’s preparations for the upcoming elections of deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

The diplomat noted that the elections will be held within constitutional term limits, and their legitimacy and transparency will be monitored by the Central Electoral Commission, the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan and international observers, including OSCE-ODIHR.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Spain Konstantin Zhigalov informed the editors and experts of local media that the upcoming elections will be held within the framework of the consistent implementation of the national course towards further political modernization of the country. At the initiative of the National Council of Public Trust under the President of Kazakhstan, the threshold for the registration of a political party has been halved, a new progressive law on peaceful assembly has been adopted, and the content of the institute of parliamentary opposition has been considerably expanded and updated. Spanish journalists commended the fact that the lists of candidates from political parties for the new parliament include at least 30% of women and young people under the age of 29.

A full-fledged briefing was held by Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Malaysia Bolat Imanbayev with the participation of journalists from leading news agencies, TV companies, print and online media of the host country. During the briefing, the participants were informed about the priority directions of development of Kazakhstan, formulated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his State of the Nation Address “Kazakhstan in a new reality: time for action”, the country’s preparations for the parliamentary elections, the current electoral campaign, the parties participating in it and political transformations aimed at aligning elections with highest international standards.

Malaysian journalists were particularly interested in the mechanism of representation in the Mazhilis of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. It is an important element of the country’s political system that consolidates the interests of all ethnic groups. This approach is very similar to Malaysia, as both countries are multi-ethnic and multicultural.
