Foreign Ministry held discussions on women’s economic empowerment projects and gender initiatives

Nur-Sultan, February 22, 2021 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan hosted the meeting between Lyazzat Ramazanova, Chairperson of the National Commission on Women Affairs, Family and Demographic Policy under the President of Kazakhstan, and Deputy Foreign Minister Margulan Baimukhan in the lead-up to the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women scheduled to be held in New York this March.

During the meeting, the parties discussed pressing issues on the agenda outlining the priorities for work of the Kazakh delegation. They also compared notes on the main topic concerning the issues of increasing women’s participation at all levels of decision-making.

The meeting also touched upon the provision of technical development assistance within KazAid, the Kazakh Agency for Official Development Assistance. The parties agreed to promote the expansion of the map of its projects with the engagement of international partners and donors.

Special attention will be paid to international projects on women’s cooperation and gender initiatives. The National Commission was recommended to take part in the EU-Central Asia Civil Forum scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan in the second half of 2021.

The parties also discussed the prospects for cooperation with the United States under the American government’s initiative for Women’s Global Development and Prosperity (W-GDP). Earlier, Ms. Ramazanova represented Kazakhstan at the virtual signing ceremony of the U.S.-led Call to Action on Women’s Economic Empowerment.
