President of Egypt’s State Visit to India (January 24–26, 2023)

At Shri Narendra Modi’s invitation, H. E. Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the president of the Arab Republic of Egypt, will visit India on a state visit from January 24 to 26, 2023. On India’s 74th Republic Day, President Sisi will also be the Chief Guest during his second State Visit. A high-level delegation, including five Ministers and senior officials, will accompany President Sisi. On January 24, 2023, he is expected to arrive in New Delhi.

President Sisi has previously traveled to India for state visits in September 2016 and the 3rd India Africa Forum Summit in October 2015. On our Republic Day, the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt is being welcomed as Chief Guest for the first time. The Republic Day parade will also feature a military contingent from the Egyptian Army.

This year marks 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Egypt. During India’s G-20 presidency in 2022–2023, Egypt has also been invited as a “Guest Country.”

On January 25, 2023, President Smt. and President Sisi will receive a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The same evening, Droupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in honor of the visiting dignitary. On bilateral, regional, and international issues of shared interest, President Sisi will meet with the Prime Minister and hold delegation-level discussions. Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, will speak with President Sisi. At a business event that day, the visiting dignitary will also engage with the Indian business community.

Warm and cordial ties between Egypt and India are characterized by their shared civilization, culture, and economy as well as their close relationships with one another. Shared cultural values, a dedication to promoting economic growth, cooperation in the defense and security sectors, and convergence on local and international issues form the foundation of the multifaceted relationship. At both international and multilateral platforms, the two nations collaborate closely.

In FY 2021–2022, bilateral trade between Egypt and India reached a record high of USD 7.26 billion. With 3.74 billion Indian exports to Egypt and 3.52 billion imports from Egypt to India, the trade was essentially balanced. Around USD 3.15 billion has been invested by more than 50 Indian businesses in various Egyptian economic sectors, including the chemicals, energy, textile, garment, agri-business, retail, etc.

President Sisi’s upcoming visit is anticipated to deepen and strengthen the long-standing relationship between Egypt and India.
