Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit to Sri Lanka and the Maldives (January 18–20, 2023)

Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister (EAM), will travel to Sri Lanka and the Maldives on business between January 18 and 20, 2023.

EAM would visit the Maldives and speak with H. E. Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the president, as well as the minister of foreign affairs, Mrs. Abdulla Shahid. During EAM’s visit, agreements relating to the bilateral development cooperation will be signed, as well as a number of important projects supported by India that will help the Maldives’ socio-economic development.

Following his earlier trips to Sri Lanka in January 2021 and March 2022, EAM will now travel there. India has always supported the people of Sri Lanka because it is a close friend and neighbor. The EAM will meet with Prime Minister H. E. Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, President Heni Wickremesinghe, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hén M. U. S. Ali Sabry to discuss the full range of close India-Sri Lanka partnership and steps to strengthen it in all spheres.

India’s two main maritime neighbors in the Indian Ocean Region, the Maldives and Sri Lanka, play a special place in Prime Minister Sagar, which aims to promote security and growth for all residents of the region, as well as “neighbourhood First.” The importance that India places on its close and cordial ties with the Maldives and Sri Lanka is attested to by EAM’s visit.
