Minister of Foreign Affairs’ visit to Austria and the Republic of Cyprus (December 29, 2022–January 3, 2023)

Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of foreign affairs, will travel to Austria and the Republic of Cyprus (RoC) on business between December 29 and January 3, 2023.

From December 29 through December 31, 2022, EAM will be in Cyprus. India and Cyprus have had diplomatic ties for 60 years as of this year. EAM will visit the House of Representatives President, H. E. Ms. Annita Demetriou, as well as his Cypriot counterpart, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides, Minister of Foreign Affairs. In addition to interacting with the Indian Diaspora, EAM will focus on the RoC business and investment community.

The Austrian Federal Minister for European and International Affairs, H. E. Mr. Alexander Schallenberg, will be met by EAM in Austria. In the past 27 years, this will be India’s first EAM-level trip to Austria. The two Ministers met three times this year outside of international gatherings (Munich, Bratislava, and New York) after Minister Schallenberg’s trip to India in March 2022.

EAM will speak with H. E. Mr. Karl Nehammer, the Austrian Chancellor, during his visit. Additionally, EAM will communicate with the Austrian-based Indian diaspora. H. E. Mr. Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and EAM will meet separately.

In the Slavkov format, EAM will also meet with Austrian Federal Minister Schallenberg and Czech Republic Foreign Minister H. E. Mr. Jan Lipavsk and Slovak Republic, respectively. Regional and global issues are anticipated to be the main topics of discussion.
