During the visit of ROK President Park Geun-hye to India in January 2014, Prime Minister Singh offered to gift the people of ROK a sapling of the Bodhi Tree. President Park had accepted the offer with appreciation.
The sapling of the holy Bodhi Tree, carried from India by representatives of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Korea Forest Service, reached ROK on 7 March 2014.
Today, a “Bodhi Tree Sapling Presentation Ceremony” was held at the Korea National Arboretum. Mr. Anil Wadhwa, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs delivered a congratulatory message at the ceremony which was also attended by Mr. Vishnu Prakash, Ambassador of India to ROK, Shin Won-Sop, Minister, Korea Forest Service and Yun Byung-se, Minister of Foreign Affairs, ROK.
This gift would serve as a powerful symbol of India – Korea friendship and close people-to-people ties.
