Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar

The 14th round of Foreign Office Consultations between India and Myanmar was held in New Delhi on July 23, 2014. The Indian delegation was led by Smt. Sujatha Singh, Foreign Secretary of India, and the Myanmar delegation by U Thant Kyaw, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.

The two countries share close and cordial ties that are rooted in shared historical, ethnic, cultural and religious ties. In the course of discussions, both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations as well as matters of international importance. Matters pertaining to political and parliamentary contacts, security, trade and investment, development cooperation and capacity building, connectivity and infrastructure development, energy, culture and people to people linkages were discussed in the course of the meeting.

Leaders of both delegations expressed satisfaction at the friendly relations between the two countries. Both sides looked forward to forthcoming high level exchanges – the planned visit of External Affairs Minister of India to Nay Pyi Taw in August 2014 for the EAS/ARF Ministerial Meetings and of Prime Minister of India in November 2014 for the EAS/ASEAN-India Summit.

The Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister also paid a courtesy call on the External Affairs Minister of India and extended an invitation to her on behalf of the Myanmar Foreign Minister to pay a bilateral visit to Myanmar.
