Consumer Empowerment Week As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (Iconic Week)

Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt of India is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav-celebration of iconic week from 14th to 2oth March 2022. ln the series of events, Western Regional Office Laboratory (WROL), Mumbai of Bureau of Indian Standards organised exposure visit on the quality testing for Science stream students today. Meanwhile, BIS Nagpur conducted Rural Outreach Programme at Gumthala Village of Kamthi Tehsil in Nagpur.

Department of Consumer Affairs is also celebratingConsumer Empowerment Week as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Several outreach programme were conducted by the departments in different villages of Maharashtra. 

WROL, Mumbai, BIS organised an exposure visit on the quality testing for Science stream students in which 42 Students and faculty from two schools participated. The objective of the programme was to promote scientific aptitude and quality consciousness in school students. The students were familiarised with the work profile of the lab personnel and visited the testing section like electrical, Mechanical, Chemical and Microbiology lab.

Students were also apprised about the testing procedure of Gold Jewellery, and discussed topics like Role of Laboratories in Conformity Assessment, Role of BIS Labs in Consumer Protection, Familiarization with different product group testing, etc.

The WROL officials also demonstrated science behind testing requirements of common consumer products such as Toys, Switch, Sockets, Electrical Appliances, lron, Gas cylinder, Pressure cooker, Cement, LPG Stoves, Utensils, Packaged drinking water, Baby food etc., and Quality Assurance steps taken by Laboratory.

As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Iconic Week, BIS Nagpur conducted Rural Outreach Programme at Gumthala Village of Kamthi Tehsil in Nagpur.

Piyush Wasekar, Scientist from Nagpur Branch Office explained about ISI Mark and CCPA 2019 to participants at outreach session in Village Gumthala of Nagpur District.

Mrs. Anshuja Garate, BDO, Kamthi Tahsil who was the Chief Guest of the Programme  explained about Consumer rights to participants at outreach session .

At the end of the program, Video on Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav was showed open house session was conducted in which various queries raised by the participants were clarified to their satisfaction.

Under theConsumer Empowerment Week celebrated by the Department of Consumer Affairs,  BIS Mumbai conducted rural outreach programme in the Kumbhawali village of Palghar district. The aim of the programme was to create awareness about consumer rights, ISI mark and Hall Mark etc.

As part of Consumer Empowerment Week, National Test House, Mumbai conducted awareness programmes on consumer protection rights in Bhatane, Vasai, Palghar, Maharashtra. National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) of India conducted consumer awareness programmes at Manivali village, Raigad district. NCCF sensitized public, school children about Consumer Complaints Consumer Protection Act Hall mark identification.

National Cooperative Consumers Federation, Pune conducted outreach programme at Zilla Parishad Primary school, Ambi Village, Khadakwasla and informed people on identification of MRP, Expiry Date, Weight, Consumer Help Line No etc. on packed products.
