At the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, President Droupadi Murmu meets with President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana

India’s president, Smt. On the eve of the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, Droupadi Murmu met H. E. Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana’s president, in Indore, Maharashtra, on January 10, 2023.

The President greeted President Ali and expressed his gratitude for being the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention’s Chief Guest.

Despite being geographically far apart, the President claimed that Guyana and India share many characteristics, including a colonial past and multicultural societies. Most importantly, the sizable Indian Diaspora serves as Guyana and India’s enduring friendship link.

According to the President, bilateral ties between the two nations have improved recently. Additionally, trade between Guyana and India is expanding. She cited Guyana’s most recent significant oil and gas discoveries and stated that there is a huge potential for cooperation and collaboration between the two countries in this area. India possesses the necessary knowledge and experience across the entire value chain for oil and gas.

According to the President, India is eager to strengthen its capacity-building and training partnerships with Guyana as well as its development partnership.

The President expressed gratitude to the Guyana government for continuing to support India’s priorities on international issues as well as its candidacy in numerous international organizations.
