These measures have been in addition to sanctions by Euro states that Iceland has already decided to participate in as well as the ones that are expected to be announced with the EU today.

The Government of Iceland has also decided to suspend australian visa facilitation for Russian authorities, business people, parliamentarians, diplomats and more such parties A bilateral visa facilitation agreement through 2008 between Iceland and Russia allowed for the simplified procedure. The decision to suspend the agreement is in line with EU‘s decision on 25 February to partially suspend its visa facilitation agreement with Russia. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs notified the decision towards the Russian Ambassador who was called to the Ministry.

The particular restriction entails that all airplane owned, chartered or managed or otherwise controlled by people of the Russian Federation and everything operators holding air operator certificate (AOC) issued by Russian Federation are restricted to enter, exit or even overfly Icelandic Airspace.
