President Ali highlighted that Cuba has made “massive contributions” to the progress Guyana, especially in the health field, through the training of a large number of healthcare workers. He declared that when selflessness and compromise are reflected, Cuba stands at the pinnacle. This, the President explained, is a testament to the people of Cuba being committed to the causes of humanity, uplifting lives and making the entire world a better place. “Today, once we celebrate 50 years of strong friendship, on behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, I want the President, Government and individuals of Cuba the best of health, prosperity and success. ”A commemorative stamp in order to mark the 50th Anniversary of diplomatic relations was also unveiled. Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) the Honourable Tag Phillips; the Minister associated with Foreign Affairs and Worldwide Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd; other Ministers of the Government; the Cuban Ambassador to Guyana, HE Narciso Reinaldo Socorro and users of the diplomatic community were also at the event. Guyana and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 7, 1972.
