Ongoing Series: Focus on Guyana’s Trade Agreements

On November 12, 2020, at 10 a.m., join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Private Sector Commission for an information session on CARICOM Regime for Trade in Goods.

The ongoing series is aimed at deepening the private sector’s understanding of Guyana’s trade agreements. The information sessions will delve into the agreements to bring to the fore, the goods and services that can be traded preferentially between Guyana and its trading partners, and the mechanisms for facilitating trade under the agreements. The sessions will also explore possible opportunities for cross-border collaboration, technical capacity building and market access challenges.

In the first session, CARICOM Regime for Trade in Goods, participants will look specifically at the Common External Tariff and the Rules of Origin regimes which affect market access within the Caribbean Community and access to critical imported intermediate products from extra-regional markets. Moreover, they will explore the operationalization of these regimes with a view towards ensuring that the private sector is well placed to utilize these mechanisms for the improved competitiveness of the products that they produce and export.
