His Excellency President Irfaan Ali accepted the letters of credence from Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Guyana, His Excellency Matsubara Yutaka, today, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.



The Head of State said that Japan has been a part of Guyana’s development for a very long time in a number of areas including through support for the private sector and the grant aid support system. In his remarks, Ambassador Yutaka spoke of the shared fundamental values of Guyana and Japan and their belief in international peace and security. He also committed to advancing cooperation between the countries. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Honourable Hugh Todd and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Elisabeth Harper, joined President Ali for the event. Diplomatic relations between Guyana and Japan were formally established on June 11, 1967.
