The event is a part of the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which is currently taking place in New York. The UN says that the summit is being convened in response to the current global crisis in education. It noted that it aims to place education at the top of the international political agenda and to mobilize action, solidarity and solutions to recover pandemic-related learning losses and transform education in a rapidly changing world. The Assembly heard presentations from youth ambassadors from around the world, Heads of State and Government representatives. Guyana is also being represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues and Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud.
