Guyana Receives COVID-19 Vaccines from India



Guyana’s efforts to immunize its population received much needed support today, with the arrival of 80,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine donated by the Government of India.

The vaccines which are of the Oxford AstraZeneca type were produced in India.

Present at the CJIA this morning to receive the vaccines were: Honourable Mark Phillips-Prime Minister, Honourable Hugh Todd-Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Honourable Frank Anthony-Minister of Health, and other representatives of associated Ministries.

His Excellency Dr. K. J Srinivasa- High Commissioner of India to Guyana presented the vaccines on behalf of the Government of India.

During the handover ceremony, the Guyanese Government officials expressed the Government of Guyana’s profound appreciation to the Government and people of India for the timely donation of vaccines, which will enhance Guyana’s efforts to immunize, especially frontline workers and the most vulnerable at this stage of the battle against the pandemic.

This gesture is yet another demonstration of the deepening bonds of friendship and cooperation between Guyana and India.
