Foreign Minister participates in Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)



The Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International today participated in the virtual Interim Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which was held under the chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan on “The Non-Aligned Movement is at the center of multilateral efforts to combat global challenges.

“Minister Todd delivered brief remarks during which he highlighted the pressing need to inoculate populations against the coronavirus and to return economies to full functionality. The Minister also posited that equitable and affordable access to vaccines remains of paramount importance and urged member states to continue working to remove barriers to combat this global challenge.

Further, Minister Todd alluded to the interconnection between the Sustainable Development Goals and stressed the need for the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) to continuously advocate for a holistic approach towards achieving the 2030 Agenda. In closing Minister Todd, reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to the principles and values of the Movement.

The conference aimed to discuss the progress made in the fight against global challenges through the joint efforts of the NAM’s members since the Baku Summit and the next steps to be taken in this direction. The conference was attended by foreign ministers of 33 countries, high-ranking representatives of the Non-Aligned Movement and observer countries.
