Foreign Minister meets with The Commonwealth SG



The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today, met with the Rt Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

Minister Todd and SG Scotland discussed the Commonwealth and Guyana’s role within the organisation. The Secretary-General also alluded to initiatives of the Commonwealth to continue capacity building efforts within the Region which includes support for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and policies. The Foreign Minister also took the opportunity to inform the Secretary-General of Guyana’s intention to host the 38th Session of the Food and Agriculture Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean (LARC38) in 2024, and Guyana’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2024-2025 term.

The Minister further alluded to details of Guyana’s expanded foreign policy agenda that guides the steadfast efforts of the Foreign Ministry. The Secretary-General is visiting Guyana, upon the invitation of His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and is scheduled to meet with several senior Government officials during her visit.
