Foreign Minister meets with Russian Ambassador on Ukraine crisis



The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Monday 7 March, 2022, met with His Excellency Alexander Kurmaz, Ambassadorof the Russian Federation to Guyana.

Ambassador Kurmaz provided an update on the Guyanese students in Russia. He stated that the students are safe and under no threat and the Russian authorities are keeping in contact. Minister Todd said that Minister Parag had noted that Guyanese students in Moscow are concerned about their inability to conduct financial transactions. On this note, the Ambassador undertook to write to the Russian Minister of Finance for clarity on the situation.

Minister Todd said that the Conflict and Humanitarian Crisis in Ukraine was discussed by the CARICOM Heads during the recent Inter-sessional Meeting held in Belize after which a Statement was issued.

Minister Todd took the opportunity to reiterate that Guyana stands fully with the CARICOM position on the matter and underscored that a diplomatic solution is the only way forward.
